AOY front runner Jimmy Dorris remains in the lead after event #14 but failed to add any more points to his best 9 finishes for the year. This left an opening for 2nd and 3rd place competitors to close the gap in the AOY points. Jimmy will have to finish 5th place or higher in the last few tournaments to add points to his already stellar year on the Bass Assassins Tournament Trail. Joe Picone is in the hunt for this year’s AOY crown. He had another good finish on the Tchefuncte River Triumph adding an extra 25 points to his best 9 finishes. He only trails front runner Jimmy Dorris by a mere 100 points. Chris Basey remains in 3rd place but is still a threat in the AOY race. He finished 1 place over AOY leader Jimmy Dorris and 3 places over 2nd place Joe Picone in the last event. With the season closing out in the next 2 months Basey is determined not to go down without a fight. We also had 2 big jumps in the AOY points race. Paul Paille got a late start on the Bass Assassins Tournament Trail but managed to catapulted himself from 20th place up to 12th overall with a big win in the Tchefuncte River Triumph. He punched his ticket to the Bass Assassins Classic with his recent win. The other angler who made big moves on the AOY board was Patrick Engerran. He too had a late start on the Bass Assassins Tournament Trail but made a big statement jumping from from 16th place to 8th overall in the AOY race. As he sits now he is qualified for the Bass Assassins Classic. Up next is the Battle on the Bayou on Bayou Liberty where the top 3 AOY anglers are always a threat. I would expect fireworks on Sept. 21st, as this tournament is setting up to be a real slug fest.
It was a hot day today on the river. one of those days when you fish a shade pattern. You fish where ever you can get in the shade no matter if the fish are there or not. Even with the heat, and the Season opener game for the Saints at noon 16 anglers, and two Little Tanglers showed up to the launch this morning to fight for first place. First place is what Paul Paille went home with. Paul put together a limit that weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. for the winning honors. In second was Lance Jarrell with a 6 lbs. 1 oz. limit. Kevin Williams rounded up the top three with a 5 lbs. 11 oz. limit. The big fish award went to Patrick Engerran who brought in a 3 lbs. 5 oz. kicker. Payton Waller took home his second win in a row in the Little Tanglers with one 1 lbs. 11 oz. bass.
The next tournament will be on Bayou Liberty Sep. 21st. If you have any questions you can call Chris Basey at 985-707-7857, or email bassassassinsla@gmail.com Northshore bass fishing vet Jimmy Dorris remains in the lead after the Lock 1 Lockdown. He has added 20 valuable points to his already commanding lead and is looking to close out the season as AOY Champ. Joe Picone has risen from 3rd to 2nd place in the AOY race jumping over Chris Basey by 15 points, and posting another strong finish at the Lock 1 Lockdown. Chris Basey has fallen from 2nd place to 3rd in the AOY standings but is looking to rally back into striking distance on his home waters of the Tchefuncte River for the next event. We are coming down to crunch time with only 5 events left to go for the season and the top AOY anglers are all gunning for the title. Anglers are getting their game faces on for their last shots at the AOY crown. I have spoken to several of the top anglers and they are already preparing to take the Tchefuncte River Triumph head on with lots of scouting and game day preparations. This should be another great event with another outstanding turn out. The 2014 Bass Assassins season has already gone down as one for our record books and is only going to get better as we reach the finish line. |
